Stuart Wells to be Portland Audubon's new Executive Director!
Huge congratulations to team member Stuart Wells, Portland Audubon's new Executive Director!
The National Audubon Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated toward preserving North America's birds and their habitat. They work in local communities across the U.S. to preserve habitat, improve government policies, and create bird friendly communities.
Wells is a Ph.D. candidate studying the reproductive physiology and behavior of the endangered Mt. Graham Red Squirrel. By bringing behavioral research into conservation programs developed by zoos and other institutions, his work lies at the intersection of science, conservation, and community. Before joining our team, he worked as program director and behavioral researcher at conservation centers including the Phoenix Zoo and Smithsonian Institution. We are so excited to see where this next chapter takes him!
“I believe the more informed people are about what wildlife species need to survive, the less inclined they will be to condone actions that lead to their demise. I’m excited to join Portland Audubon to help continue its 120 year legacy of educating and inspiring all people to love and respect the natural environment and the birds that depend on it for survival.” ~ Stuart Wells
